ALGON National President Hon. Bello Lawal's 2025 New Year message is a call to action for unity, progress, and democratic governance in Nigeria's 774 local governments and Area Councils.
He reaffirms his commitment with the support of the National Executive Council NEC, the Board of Trustees BOT, Management and staff to leading the Association in strengthening democratic governance, promoting service delivery, and ensuring accountability.
Hon Lawal acknowledges the significant achievements of 2024, including the Supreme Court Judgement, consistent conduct of LG elections in over 15 states out of over 30 states that are presently operating with elected officers, and also recalled the two peaceful transition of ALGON leadership in one year which was due to constitutional imperative. He also highlights how ALGON used the influx of high-level organisations to gain visibility and national prominence, noting that international organizations were directing their attention to ALGON for partnership.
For 2025, Lawal promised a strategic focus on mobilizing Chairmen for best practices, promoting selfless sacrifices to constituents, and enhancing proficiency through domesticating peer review in the LGAs.
He emphasizes the importance of supporting Chairmen, providing useful feedback, and institutionalizing separation of powers for accountability and transparency.
Ultimately, the ALGON National President's message urges Nigerians to remain united, determined, and supportive of their local governments, promoting democratic governance, and advancing the well-being of rural communities in the year just ushered in.
