The Deputy National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Hon. Chief Moses Nomeh has felicitated His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru and acknowledged his leadership as top notch, people-oriented and service driven.
In his Christmas message in Abakaliki the state capital, Chief Nomeh recalls several evidence based projects that have become testament of good governance.
Hon stated that some of the achievements of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, were a combination of both capital projects, recurrent and development of human resources to cater and deliver services. He gave insight to how he was able to employ two hundred and ninety five (295) medical personnels for all general hospitals in the state thereby reducing indiscriminate medical tourism and Japa syndrome that has become the Order of the day. To make good his promise of ensuring better condition of service and enabling environment Gov Nwifuru graciously procured and distributed brand new SUV's for all the medical Doctors in Ebonyi state owned general hospitals alongside the purchase and distribution of brand new ambulances for all to support emergencies and mobile services for the general hospitals, according to Chief Nomeh, this ambitious political will is presently a game changer in the health care sector.
Nomeh noted that His Excellency has increased monthly allowances for all medical Doctors in our general hospitals by one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N150,000) each alongside other incentives. Meanwhile other medical equipment and hospital consumables worth over eleven billion naira were purchased for the good people of Ebonyi State. Also, to ensure that charity began from home, the Ebonyi State owned University now has their own School of Medical Science courtesy of the Governor in addition to the Alex Ekwueme AE-FUNAI (Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu- Alike, Ikwo)
As a visionary leader with bias for safety and security at the center of his administration's Policy direction, His Excellency , Rt. Hon. Nwifuru has visibility brought peace with zero tolerance to communal clashes, crisis and ill-concieved struggles across the state. A record that has received barrage of commendation by his administration. His Excellency's priority to ensure that workers are well remunerated both during and after active service had led to the payment of gratuities and allowance due to retirees of Ebonyi state in retrospect (from 1996 to 2023) with additional whooping monthly allowances of twenty thousand naira (N20,000) to the salaries of civil servants.
As part of efforts to addressing the perennial problems of rising cost of petroleum products, His Excellency has provided the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses support workers in their transportation which has led to substantial utilisation of manhour and zero tolerance to loss of time, this intervention have been widely commended and is presently free to workers without any payment. His Excellency's similar magnanimity has been extended to the students of higher institutions as part of palliative and stimulus to cushion their logistics expenses within the school shuttles. To balance the magnanimity in leadership, Hon Nomeh observed that His Excellency had to increasing salaries of Ebonyi state university lecturers by 20% a rare generosity that has been widely appreciated. He further increased the salaries of the Ebonyi State University's (EBSU)'S non-academic staff by as far as 10 percent. He went further to roll back the rising unemployment by engaging about one thousand seven hundred (1,700) Ebonyians into the state civil service a feat that has set both service delivery, productivity and job creation on an exceptional curve. As a continuation of development initiatives, The ALGON Deputy National President went further to share insights on how the Governor has been able to "approve and Kick-started the dual construction ongoing of Information and Computer Technology (ICT) University and simultaneously with University of Aerospace engineering at Oferekpe Agbaja Izzi and Ezza respectively, this giant stride is phenomenal for posterity to be kind to the Governor," Said Chief Nomeh.
According to him, he continued recalling how the Governor intervened by reducing the Ebonyi state University student's s6chool fees by 10% as against the earlier increase of school fees. This he specifically acknowledged that the students have received with great admiration coupled with the automatic employment of 1st class graduates of Ebonyi origin into our tertiary institutions of higher learning.
He also recalled that as part of efforts aimed at promoting international hybrid in shared knowledge and equipping the Ebonyi indigent students with foreign academic exposure, the Governor in his wisdom has approved about Nine billion naira ( N9b) for the implementation of foreign and local scholarship programme to Ebonyian'.
About five hundred (500) Ebonyian's targeted.
In the area of infrastructure, he said that available records have shown that not less than five hundred urban and rural roads are completed and ongoing across the 13 LGAs of the state. He said that the popular Ebonyi state Vanco Junction is undergoing the construction of a state-of-the art flyover that will decongest the area and also boast economic activities, to ease the movement of goods and services. No doubt, this will also improve the overall aesthetic of the capital City. He equally expressed joy in these series of service delivery of which according to him excites the goop people of the state. He pledged the unflinching loyalty of the entire 13 local governments in the state. He praised the construction of an overhead pedestrian bridge at FETHA 2 gate along Abakaliki- Enugu highway of which he gave an account of how impactful the bridge will be to curb traffic congestion and reduce accident rates. The state is presently a a huge construction site with the ongoing construction of so many bridges in some parts of the state.
The Construction has become more intense with virtually every civil strata getting it's fair size, for instance about five hundred (500) bungalows are ongoing in Ezza Ezilo and Emezu Communities of the state. F
This Chief Nomeh pointed out that they are all taking off simultaneously with a unique kind of edifice to Communities in the state. He said that to carry everybody along, there is yet another construction of traditional rulers palace/duplex across the state and 2 kilometer roads leading to their respective palaces to create a befitting traditional home for them.
Chief Nomeh knowing the essence of Agriculture value chain went further to appreciate the Governors efforts in procuring and distributing over thirty thousand bags of fertilizer to the farmers across the communities and farm clusters in the state. The is revertalization of Ebonyi state hatchery industry. He said that His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Governor of Ebonyi state has approved and installation on top gear of the poultry cages. Consequent upon this, over fifteen thousand (15,000) old layer chickens for the production of eggs and twenty thousand (20,000) broilers. Similar efforts are ongoing in its Piggery and fishery section for wealth creation and both domestic and external consumption to upscale the states GDP. Another milestone in Governs Agriculture revolution is his procurement of about twenty number (20) tractors for farming to consolidate the existing gains recorded on food security and economy prosperity, More so there have been ongoing construction and revertalization of Oferekpe water scheme, Ezilo water scheme, and all other water schemes in the state. Very interesting to note that, some parts of Abakaliki residence are already enjoying steady water from our scheme, this is to the credit of His Excellency.In an efforts aimed at exploring the industrialization programme in line with the manifesto and campaign promises of His Excellency, the Ebonyi state pipe production industry,Ezzamgbo has commence full operation in production of pipes of various needs. The intention of Ebonyi state government in the industry is to produce and distribute varying pipes to consumers across Nigeria.
Another interesting news according to Hon Nomeh is that, the state will be open to both local and foreign direct investments and targets making an enabling environment to enable the state thrive as both industrial destinations and investments capital.
On the issue of the embarrassing rate of unemployment in the state, the Governor has prioritized job creation and such will soon reduce drastically by the time the state government starts engaging the Ebonyi youths in all these people oriented projects. To a large extent, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru approved and disbursed the sum of two hundred and eight five million naira (#285,000,000) for the provision of starter parks to ninety five (95) graduate trainees of Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru empowerment programme. This (Batch A) selected across 13 LGA's of the state is another benevolent policy of his Government. It is expected that the beneficiaries by virtue of the approval are to receive Three million naira (#3m) each.
Another approved and disbursed to promote job creation with trickle down effect of over One thousand Ebonyians across states to smile home with a whopping sum of Two million naira (#2m) each to support their businesses.
Also another approved and disbursed One hundred persons per LGA with One hundred and eighty thousand naira (#180,000)
Approved and disbursed Fifty thousand naira (#50,000) each to over Three thousand Ebonyians through EBSMEDA to support their businesses.
Also on the list is an approved and disbursements of the sum of One hundred million naira (#100,000,000) each to 13 LGA's. Beneficiaries are;
(a) Indigents both men and women across every ward of the state.
(b) Political class across the party line.
(c) Traders
(d) Artisans
(e) Clergy etc.
Again, The ALGON Deputy National President noted that in an effort to reinvigorate Ebonyi state transport corporation (EBOTRANS). His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has approved the purchase of Twenty number (20)brand-new buses for public use. This no doubt will reduce the high cost of transportation in the state as subsidy will be applied.
On Sports matters due to the combination of health and economic benefits of sports, His Excellency in conjunction with Fair-Play sports last month hosted A Half international marathon from different parts of the country of 21.9 kilometers competition. First of its kind since the creation of Ebonyi state.
The Power Sector in a bid to curb epileptic power supply we experienced in the state. His Excellency, has commenced discussions with Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to establish 330 Megga Watts Transmission station to boast industrialization To achieve this, over fifty billion naira (50b) is to be spent into the project to actualize the dream. So far millions of naira and transformers are distributed to Afikpo and other areas of the state.
The Information and communication channel has been upgraded with the revertalization of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC) and Television to a world class station. This after, full installation of modern equipment will compete with other terrestrial stations.
The major reason Chuba Okadigbo airport Abakaliki is receiving attendance. His Excellency Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru one month ago concluded the construction of the runway to meet International standards. It is expected that very soon, Ebonyi will own and launch their first ever aeroplane in the International airport.
The state Governor has not left out the issue of Waste Management through the recycling waste machines already in place and fully installed and ready for use at the Umuoghara community in Ezza North LGA. Basically, it is technologically built to carry out sorting. The machines on ground are sophisticated enough to sort all manner of waste materials for the state to sell. Employment there Will be massive soon. And other numerous achievements to mention.
